Enrolled in classical piano lessons at age four, Vanessa was a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music by the age of seven and was being awarded with outstanding performance awards for her solo acts on the piano. She excelled in public speaking and stage productions all the way through elementary and high school while maintaining honor roll status and taking part in various sports teams and clubs. It was her high school drama teacher who took notice of her acting abilities and suggested Vanessa sign with an agent to pursue the craft professionally.
